Dominion Masonry is an Almonte Ontario based, new and restoration masonry company, owned and operated by Sean MacKenzie.
After several years in the construction industry Sean noticed the need for quality masonry construction. Entering the Heritage and Traditional Masonry program at Algonquin College he completed a 2 year program. Following college, Sean worked in the heritage masonry division of Federal Public Works and Government Services, doing shop and field work for many projects including a restoration of the Observatory in the Central Experimental Farm. After leaving Public Works for the private sector, Sean worked with various masons and bricklayers until striking out on his own and forming Dominion Masonry in 2002.
In late 2003 Sean moved to Almonte with his wife and children and in the fall of 2005 he and a former classmate created a new business, Gordon/ Mackenzie Masonry. Over the next five years Gordon/MacKenzie Masonry completed many projects from putting brick or stone on many custom homes to doing restoration work, including many heritage projects such as some re-pointing on the Commissariat, the oldest stone building in Ottawa and a series of chimneys at the Central Experimental Farm.
In 2010 Gordon/MacKenzie Masonry was dissolved so the two partners could pursue separate interests. Sean re-established Dominion Masonry and continues to provide quality work in the masonry field. Using materials and techniques that are seldom used in modern masonry, Sean is able to create brick and stone work that stands out. From a small garden wall to full masonry cladding on a house or a re-point of a century old building, Dominion Masonry can accomplish any project.
